Best cosplay ever me thinks!
Just finished watching a series from last year called Rozen Maiden. I'd heard a lot about this particular pick but only in name; I had no idea what it was about, which voice actors/actresses it featured, nada. I only wish I'd come across this one sooner than I had since it was thoroughly enjoyable. One of the main reasons I decided to watch Rozen Maiden was because I'd recently learned that there would be a second season debuting this Autumn season. Not wanting to be left out this time around, the only way to join in on the action is to get caught up and so I did.
So what's the series all about? Well, there's this lad by the name of Jun who suffers from that "disease" where kids no longer acknowledge life and their families are too reserved to do anything about it. He's not gone to school for a while and spends all day ordering crap, namely occult stuff, from the net. One day, he receives a small suitcase which contains an intricately made doll, dressed in gothic lolita garb. We soon discover that the doll has a mind of its own (as well as a name, Shinku) and makes Jun her personal servent. If I had to make comparisons, I'd label this as Chobits-meets-Child's Play (Chuckie)-meets-Angelic Layer (it's a weird combination I know...).
The artwork is incredibly cute and a joy to watch; lots of gothic lolita dolls running around all over the place wreaking havoc in some poor introverted chap's house. You can tell this series had high production values. The music, especially the opening theme, fits the series like a glove. In more ways than one, it reminds me a lot of the tunes from Maria-sama ga Miteru.
Can't wait for the second season to begin, just have to wait until mid October now...
I'm still working on my photos and trip report from my holiday; I expect to have everything ready to upload by Sunday night - fingers crossed!
