If you've already read Mike or Kate's blog, then I'm sure you'll already know of the AberAnimeSoc un-elections. For those of you who haven't been enlightened yet, allow me to regale you with the tale.
This coming Thursday was supposed to be the second election event in the course of the society since conception. Myself, Mike, Dave, Peter, Gérard, and Joe, were all running for a committee position each but since there are only five places available, one person wasn't going to make it. After a chain of events which spilled over from the society's forums and on to Gérard's blog, Joe decided to withdraw from elections entirely and thus next year's committee was born!
Whilst we've had a good year almost behind us, I've not been entirely satisfied with it and won't be until we address some of the issues. I'm looking forward to working with my new colleagues, Peter and Gérard, and I'm sure we'll present a society for people to be proud to be members of.
Tammy, Mike, Khang, and myself went to Little Italy to test drive it out so to speak and damn, why the hell did we not think of going there before?!
The restaurant itself is very small, maybe able to cater for no more than 30 - 40 people at any one time. The menu was vast, full of tastebud tantilising delights which should make even the pickiest of eaters salivate with glee. I saw at least three or four dishes I'd have liked to try that evening, but decided to go with the sublime Sole - Little Italy. Comprising of fresh sole fish, prawns, cheese, and lots of garlic, served with garlic potatoes and fresh vegetables, it was to die for! Tammy had the Seafood Rissoto which I'll be trying next time, Mike had the Pasta Carnivora (kinda like carbonara), and Khang had the Romany Chicken which all looked equally good. Couple this with some excellent home-made Tiramissu, cheesecake, and ice cream and we were sated.
Now, I'm gonna dispute with Mike on this one because I thought the price was going to be a lot higher than what we paid. The bottle of wine we had bumped it up a bit, but I'd have expected to pay a similar price at a chain somewhere like Bella Pasta. And did I mention the food really was that damn good???
We're all going again on Wednesday, my stomach's counting down the days until then...
Saturday was spent shopping at Safeways for the on-off barbecue we'd sort of arranged for the weekend. After a rather bleak looking early afternoon, the weather improved considerably by the early evening and it was decided that we should grasp the opportunity.
We set up shop underneath the Greek flag (boo-hiss) and got both the grill and the camp fire started. This served as a good warm-up for the upcoming society barbecue which will take place some time in the next two weeks.
Sunday was my day of work and play. I went up to campus to finish off my essay for a marketing module I'm doing along with Jon. Working in Hugh Owen library, my wi-fi card still frequently disconnects. I'm tempted to take it back to Dixons this coming weekend and paying for a better quality one.
I managed to finish all my work, and returned back down town to do some laundry and play some more Feel the Magic/Project Rub. I managed to earn a few more stars but no new costumes yet.
Afterwards, I returned back home for some Initial D action where we discovered that Kazumi could possibly give Mogi a run for her money, the hussy!
Later on, Khang and I went to Mike and Tammy's for dinner consisting of fajitas and wedges. As always, my fajitas suffered from excess sauce dripping and created a bit of a mess on the plate. I was pleasantly surprised and immensely entertained by Around the World in 80 Days starring Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan. Featuring a very silly cast of supporting characters (Macy Gray, Arnie, Sammo Hung, Richard Branson etc), it really was a great movie to watch with company.
This past week, I made a phenominal discovery in the world of sports anime. Eyeshield 21 is the latest show rocking mine, and Mike's, and Tammy's, and Khang's world, and I can honestly put my hand on my heart and say it's the best of this new season. It's your typical underdog story; a non-existent American football team gets assembled revolving around the discovery of their unlikely star running-back, code named Eyeshield 21. It's incredibly silly, full of laughs, and I get an immense feeling of heart from it whenever I watch it. Watch it, watch it now! You know I'm never wrong on these things, right? This brings the the shows watched on a weekly basis to a whopping 30!
I'm still awaiting my copy of Bleach from Play-Asia, as well as the telescopic DS stylee for Mike (who's STILL waiting for Naruto - Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3!) and myself. I managed to snag a copy of Bleach from the NTSC-UK forums for Khang this morning for the bargainous price of £29 including delivery. My copy's costing me £35 including shipping; had I not already ordered one for myself, I'd have definitely taken up this offer.
This Friday sees the surprising release of Haunting Ground (Demento in Japan) in the UK; I'll be exchanging my rarely played copy of Mario 64 DS for it. Being a Capcom horror fest, I'm sure it'll be right up my street and I personally can't wait. Sadly, I'll have to take it home to play that weekend on my brother's un-modded PS2 with no RGB scart...
Right now, I'm sitting in B23 waiting for my next lecture at 5pm so if you're near by, feel free to come on over and relieve me of my boredom!
